No one ever wants to feel like they’re in second place, especially when they should be someone’s top priority. For one woman on Reddit, she struggled to accept the fact that her husband was still friends with his ex-girlfriend named Anna. Although she wasn’t bothered by their friendship at first, he did something so irreparable to their relationship that she could never trust him again.
It was back in August 2020 when the wife was pregnant with her and her husband’s first baby. She was already past her due date and was expected to give birth any day now. However, Anna had called her husband in the middle of the night one night because there had been a terrible accident involving her brother. The husband immediately rushed out the door to be by her side.
When the wife began having contractions in the morning, her husband was nowhere to be found. Fortunately she made it to the hospital on time to deliver a happy and healthy baby girl with her husband not in the picture. The wife was so furious with her husband for missing the birth of their child because he had been with his ex that she didn’t even allow him to see their baby until the next day.
Since then, the wife has been struggling to figure out just how involved she wants her husband to be in their daughter’s life, and if she even wants to be with him anymore, and went to Reddit to try to get some answers. Read on to find out more about what happened with their relationship.

Starting off her Reddit post, the original poster (OP) explained that she never had a problem with her husband’s friendship with his ex-girlfriend until the day she gave birth. Anna’s brother had gotten into a car accident and was in serious condition, but he was fortunately on the path to recover. Prior to knowing this, OP’s husband had rushed to the hospital to be there for emotional support for Anna, driving her in the process since she was too scared. A few hours went by before OP started having contractions. She called her husband repeatedly, but he never answered. Finally she called her father, who ended up driving her to the hospital.
“I was so scared of giving birth alone since I’ve had about 3 miscarriages and 1 stillborn,” OP said. Sadly, she had to do just that since her husb and never showed up and her father wasn’t in the delivery room at the time the baby was born. By the time OP’s dad finally got a hold of him, it was too late for him to make it in time to see his child’s birth. Fortunately everything went smoothly for OP and she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl.
OP continued, “Well, my husband took that as ‘he’s already screwed up, so it doesn’t matter when he shows up at this point’ so when he FINALLY came, our daughter was about 5 hours old and I’d already moved to the maternity ward.” OP refused to let him see their baby until the next day, and told him that she was planning on divorcing him since he had decided to spend time with his ex instead of being there for the birth of his child.

Excusing his behavior, the husband explained that Anna’s brother was in serious critical condition, and that she still needed support despite having her parents there. OP had heard enough. “I told him that I didn’t care and that his daughter has already come second to him and all she did was be born,” she said. Even though OP wanted to put her and her daughter’s mental health first, she couldn’t help but feel bad that she would be depriving her daughter from having a full-time father.
Several Reddit users agreed that OP was not wrong for being upset with her husband, but needed more information about the situation. After several edits to her original post, OP revealed even more details about her ongoing situation. She had allowed her husband to spend time with their baby the day she was discharged from the hospital. He also would’ve made it back in time for his daughter’s birth if he left after finding out Anna’s brother had regained consciousness.
In a shocking twist, OP found out that she was moving ahead with the divorce and filing for full-custody of her daughter. After reaching out to Anna’s brother to see how he was recovering, she found out that her husband and Anna had gotten back together. It happened when OP was still pregnant. Her husband said he made a “mistake,” but it was one that OP couldn’t forgive. “I don’t want my baby growing up to be like her father or Anna,” OP said. “He can be fun dad or whatever it is he wants to be.”
