Donald Trump seems to be considering a bid for the presidency in 2024. Although this does not come as a huge surprise for most people who have followed Trump over the last few months, he did indicate that he would be switching things up for this attempt to take over the White House. Instead of including Mike Pence on the ticket, rumor has it that Trump would want to have a Black person or a woman instead.
Following the MAGA attack on the Capitol, the Republican Party has been fractured. Some old school republicans disowned Trump for his accused role for inciting the fatal attack that killed a police officer. However, many Republicans continue to throw their support behind Trump despite him being out of power.
Now Trump is talking to his allies about a possible run for the presidency again in the upcoming 2024 election. If Trump does plan a comeback, he might pick a more diverse running mate to help steal some of the votes from the Democrats who overpowered Republicans at the polls in 2020.
Rumors are flying that South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (above) could be Trump’s running mate, although she refused to work to put the former president’s face on Mount Rushmore. Noem was one of several Republicans who stood behind Trump despite his apparent role in inciting the MAGA mob that attacked police at the Capitol building.
Pundits also believe that South Carolina Senator Tim Scott (above) could be a potential running mate because he is a Black man, which would give Trump some diversity on the ticket. Scott is the only Black Republican in the Senate.
Three insiders broke with Trump to speak with Bloomberg about how Pence would almost certainly be absent from Trump’s second presidential bid. Not only did Trump disown Pence when he refused to overthrow the election, but Trump would also want a running mate who could take some voters away from the Democrats in key states like Georgia and Arizona. Pence, a white man, only earned votes from the existing Republican base.
Trump, according to his insiders, would want a running mate who supported him in the wake of the Capitol riots by the MAGA extremists. Noem continues to be a top contender.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump Jr. and his girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle, hosted a fundraiser for Noem’s reelection campaign for Governor of South Dakota. The event was hosted at the Trump home in the Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach.
Mar-a-Lago is expected to be a significant location for Republicans seeking donations in the months leading up to the 2022 election. Noem hopes to receive a lot of donations from Trump’s contacts and supporters as she works to get another term as South Dakota’s governor.
However, Noem has indicated that she may sidestep Trump and become a contender for the presidency in 2024 herself. Noem supported Trump’s false claims that he won the election, aided his failed attempt to overthrow the election results, and refused to admit Trump was responsible for the deadly insurrection.
Do you think Trump should run without Pence?
