Few people were able to get through Sir Tom Jones’s impromptu performance on The Voice when he was given a microphone so he could sing a tribute to his recently deceased wife.

Jones, 82, delivered an emotional performance for the studio audience as well as the millions of people watching at home on their television or other devices.
Jones’s performance kicked off the new season of the show, and he performed I Won’t Crumble With You If You Fall in honor of his wife, whom he recently lost.
Jones dedicated the song to his deceased wife, Melinda Trenchard. She passed away from cancer in 2016.
In the years since her passing, Tom Jones has been missing her very much and thinks about her often, which was why he did not hesitate to dedicate his performance to her on the television show.
Jones remained in his chair alongside fellow judges Anne-Marie, Olly Murs, and will.i.am.
He sang the heart-wrenching tribute to his wife from the comfort of his chair, holding the microphone to his lips in his hand.
Throughout the performance, the studio audience fell silent as they allowed Tom Jones’s beautiful voice to wash over them and impart emotion and love with every syllable.
Before Jones gave in to the audience’s demands for him to sing a song on the show, he explained a little about why he had chosen this song and what it meant to him.
“Now, this song is very important to me. I try to pick songs that mean a lot to me.
And this song is trying to tell you that people that you love sometimes need to be backed up.
You need to give them strength and encouragement.”
After he had finished singing the song, Jones explained that he had written the song in honor of his wife Melinda, who he married in 1957.
Tom and Melinda met when Tom was just twelve years old.

They married four years after they first met because they fell in love with each other right off the bat.
While speaking to the audience, he said: “My wife, you know, she was dying of lung cancer, so I said, you know, I was always able to fix stuff, to do things if she needed me.
I was always there.
She said, ‘Don’t crumble with me, don’t fall now, you’ve done everything you can, you must carry on and do what you do.’
So I put the song, and when I heard it, it was like it was written for this situation. It’s a lovely song.”
Jones’s fellow judges were clearly emotional following his performance. Fellow judge Anne-Marie even described the Tom Jones performance on The Voice as “one of the best moments of my life.”
Fans shared their delight in hearing Tom Jones sing on the show.
“Just bawled my eyes out listening to Tom Jones singing about his wife on The Voice. What an incredible man,” wrote one viewer.
Another added, “Tom Jones burst me into tears.”
